Megxit to MegFest: The Sussex Squad Yearly Retreat

Updated: Oct 14

MegFest
Meghan and Her Friends

From Megxit to MegFest: With Prince Harry officially declaring the United States his primary residence, it's time for the Sussex Squad to elevate their game. Once a year, in a location so exclusive that even James Bond might struggle to find it, we (including myself, a closeted Squad member since the first episode of Suits on June 23, 2011) could host an extraordinary gathering. This is different from your average summit or conference. No, Squaddies, it's something far more regal in spirit and noble in cause. It's the annual retreat for the most dedicated supporters of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. I know what you're thinking: 'THAT'S A FANTASTIC IDEA, but how?' Let's break it down to bite-size loaded avocado-toast pieces to see what this #MegFest #SussexFest #SquadFest of camaraderie and charity in support of women and children might look like—the Where, When, What, Why and Who of MegFest Dossier.

Where Crowns Meet Camping

Imagine a unique blend of glamping and royal tea parties, where you can debate non-working royal protocol around a bonfire, marshmallow stick in one hand, American Riviera Orchard teacup in the other. Each year, a location is carefully chosen, a blend of nature and luxury, fitting for those accustomed to reading tabloids while enjoying a spot of organic tea. Megxit to MegFest: The Sussex Squad Yearly Retreat makes Cabinet meetings at Camp David look like child's play.

From Charity Runs to Crown Crafts

The agenda is packed tighter than Harry's suitcase on a swift exit from the palace. Mornings might start with a 5K charity run, dubbed "The Escape From the Place," followed by workshops on empowering communities - especially women at risk of abuse, childhood poverty in the host country, and protecting the environment - themes close to the couple's heart. Afternoon activities can range from meeting local Sussex Squads and their jam-making businesses, the breadmakers, the doctors, the lawyers, the YouTubers, the home-makers, and the content creators so the local Squad become familiar with these goods and services in their country - bringing communities together and bridging the cap to a path of success for all. The aim is to craft a community of supporters, from online to offline, from FaceTime to face-to-face time. What we can achieve at these retreats is endless. You haven't lived until you've tried crafting a tiara from recycled materials or baking scones that could pass the Queen's taste test.

Evening Galas and Fireside Chats

As the sun sets, the camp transforms into a scene befitting a royal ball, although with a touch more practical footwear. Evening galas are not just about rubbing elbows in elegant, eco-friendly attire. They're opportunities to raise substantial funds for charities that align with Meghan and Harry's efforts, from mental health initiatives to gender equality. The highlight of the retreat? The Fireside Chats, where attendees gather to share stories of how the Duke and Duchess inspired them to make a difference, all the while hoping Harry and Meghan might surprise us by joining via a serene, low-satellite orbit video call. I would probably die with a surprise visit from the Sussexes, as many of you would.

Connecting in the Name of the Sussexes

The sense of community makes these yearly retreats(or every two years) unique. At MegFest, friendships are forged, acquisition and merger are negotiated over shared interests and a collective admiration for two individuals striving to carve out their unique path. The Squad Retreat could be a testament to the power of unity, support, and perhaps a shared fascination with what it means to step back from a toxic family dynamic, embrace constructive dismissal from a job and become a massive success despite the continuous roadblocks by an institution that couldn't control you, so they try to control how the public perceives you through the British Press. Even in the face of adversity, Harry and Meghan never step away from public compassion and commitment. This retreat is not just about us; it's about the impact we can make together.

In the name of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, we supporters can prove that you don't need crowns to make a crowning impact on the world. And while it all might seem like a fun-filled fantasy, who's to say what a group of dedicated fans can achieve when we come together? MegFest, SussexFest, SquadFest - the name doesn't matter now, but we have the numbers and the drive to become Coachella's cousins or Burning Man's brother-in-law without all the drug problems; or Marathons and Triathlons races without the soreness. After all, in the world of Meghan and Harry, the unexpected should always be expected. So, let's get ready for a retreat filled with fun, excitement, and the opportunity to make a difference!

And watch haters become fans faster than Usain Bolt.
